     Les lapins ne sont pas des animaux naturellement présent en Australie. Les terres australiennes étaient vierges de ces rongeurs jusqu'au jour où, Thomas Austin, un British passionné de chasse, importe 12 couples de lapins dans sa propriété en Australie. Vingt-quatre individus donc, prudemment enfermés dans une cage. Une nuit un incendie dans la maison de Thomas détruit son clapier. Quelques lapins mourront dans la catastrophe et une poignée de petits chanceux parviendra à s'échapper dans la nature. Ils y découvriront non sans mal les joies de la chair : 
En effet, c'était en 1859. Aujourd'hui, ils sont plus de 500 millions.

Dévorant récoltes, pâturages et arbustes, ils menacent l'écosystème déjà fragile de l'Australie et sont donc considérés comme nuisibles. Ils menacent des espèces en voie de disparition, comme le walibi, en dévorant toute leur nourriture. Tout est bon pour s'en débarrasser : On erigent des barricades, on créée des virus mortels ou contraceptifs et même des explosifs. On introduit le renard, son principal prédateur, qui s'attaquera aux walibis : nouvel échec. 
Le lapin résiste à tout et demeure la menace majeure pour l'écosystème australien.

C'est pas des tapettes, ces lapins.

     Rabbits are not naturally present in Australia. The Australian soil is completely free from this rodent until Thomas Austin, an enthusiastic of hare coursing, imported twelve couples of rabbits from Great Britain in his holiday house in Australia. Therefore, twenty four subjects cautiously locked in cages. But one night a fire starts in Thomas' house and the rabbit hutch is destroyed. Several rabbits died in the fire but a bunch of lucky little bastards managed to escaped and reached the wild, when they discovered the beutiful desires of the flesh :

And indeed, it was in 1859. Nowadays, there are more than 500 millions of them.

Bushes, harvests and pastures are being devoured which is a direct threat to the fragile ecosystem of Australia. They are therefore considered as harmful. They are threatening species in extinction, such as the Walibi, by eating their staple food. 
Everything is thought of to get rid of this hazard : barricades are erected, contraceptive and lethal viruses are created, even explosives are authorized to use. Foxes, their arch enemies, are inserted into the wild to eat them but they tend to attack walibis, which is again a big failure in the hare killing race.
Rabbits resist everything and remain the biggest threat of the Australian ecosystem. 
 

Long story short, rabbit ain't weaklings.
